  1. This recipe produces a heavy, dense bread with a crunchy outer crust. Tasty! I believe it is im- proved with replacing l l/4 cups of white flour with rye and adding 2 tablespoons of caraway seeds. It baked in 50 minutes with no gooy center and a fine crumb. Great buttered and enjoyed with a good cup of coffee.

  2. Made this bread for St. Patty's Day 2011 and I received rave reviews from coworkers and my husband. I made some additions to this easy and already tasty recipe: replaced 1 cup of all purpose flour with Rye flour and 1/4 cup of vital wheat gluten, and added 1 Tbsp of Caraway seeds. Everyone said it was the perfect amount of rye with the savoriness of the caraway. The wheat gluten helped the bread rise beautifully (if not a bit lopsided too!) due to the addition of a heartier flour. Great recipe, will definitely make again anytime I've got Guinness at hand and we need a moist, delicious bread!

  3. This is by far the best *beer bread* I have ever eaten! Made as written using bread flour and as others commented, 50 minute bake time was just right. Thanks Felix for posting such a great beer bread recipe :) Served with Recipe #361481

  4. Yummy! You can definitely taste the Guiness in it. You could cut down the cooking time like the others mentioned; my crust was a little hard. This recipe was so easy!

  5. I’m on the fence with this recipie. The outter crust was almost too hard. The inside was perfect & very tasty. I’ll probably make croutons with the leftovers. Made this to go with Guinness beef stew. Glad I made it. Has been on my list. Next time, I’ll cut it to 3 cups of flour. & bake it at a lower temp. Thanks!

Tweaks

  1. Must have tweaks: Add 1/2 cup brown sugar Add 1.5 cups raisins soaked in said Guinness until soft. (not mushy.) Add nutmeg and allspice. 1/2 tsp each Bake in a Bundt Pan Yummy!

  2. Use 4 Cups Self-rising Flour instead of the regular flour, baking powder and salt. Add 1/2 cup (or 1/4 cup) Melted Butter to the top of the loaf before baking. If you are wanting a softer crust, add the melted butter to the batter. You don't have to add eggs to the batter.

I work as a professional stagehand for my local union (IATSE Local 26, West Michigan Stagehands), which takes me all over the state and lets me meet all sorts of interesting people. My primary training is in lighting and wardrobe, and I can be found backstage at everything from rock concerts to opera/ballet/symphony/Broadway tour performances to hockey games to corporate meetings and Presidential appearances. In June of 2005, my Local elected me to serve as a delegate to our International convention in mid-July, which was held in Honolulu. In November of 2008, I was elected to my third three-year term as Recording Secretary of my union local. Currently, I am the news poster for www.megatechnews, a computer tech site affiliated with several other tech sites. My biggest passion is union activism. The more I get involved, the more I want to be involved. I also read like a fiend and enjoy "discovering" local or regional bands at local clubs.Recently, I started making jewelry again after a more than ten-year hiatus. It started as a project for Christmas presents, but doing it reminded me how much I enjoy it, so I may be resurrecting my business soon. I never duplicate a piece, because the entire point is that I do custom work, and will take orders to suit. The pieces I have done are in a photo album on Facebook located here: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=21364&id=1373365950&l=5be410742d
