Chapter Twelve
The last couple of weeks have been rough, I was still staying with Maci and Juice. I got to see what she had meant about Juice’s mood change, he was closed off and barely spoke to her and the two of us hadn’t said a word to each other. Happy only came around a few times because he was needed to stay at the warehouse to watch over things. It didn’t really bother me but we had never got a chance to talk about that kiss and what it meant. This morning Maci told me she was going to go visit her parents in Florida for a couple of weeks, I was shocked at first but then I under stood why she needed to get away for a little bit. Things around Charming was just too complicated and seemed just not worth the headache.
“Maci does Juice know your leaving today?” I asked her as I walked into the kitchen where she was cleaning up.
“Yeah I told him yesterday when I saw him and he didn’t even seem to care.” Maci said and I could hear the sadness in her voice. “I need some time to think about what I want in life then I will be back and I will tell him about the baby to see how he feels about it.”
“What baby?” We both heard and turned to see Juice standing there in the door way glaring at us.
“I thought you had left already.” Maci quickly said to him.
“Well I didn’t, what baby are you talking about?” he snapped at her.
“I was going to tell you when I got back… Juice I’m pregnant.” She said softly and his eyes went wide. Juice’s reaction surprised us both when he just turned around and walked out of the apartment. “Juice please wait!” Maci yelled as she ran after him.
I stood there in the kitchen not knowing what to do, we had both assumed Juice had left already and now that seemed like an awkward situation. I knew this wasn’t how she wanted to tell him about the baby but there was no way of keeping it from him now. As I stood there waiting for one of them to walk back in I heard the bike start up and leave and a few seconds later Maci walked back in shaking her head.
“Are you ok?” I asked her as she stood there quietly looking at me. “Did he say anything to you?”
“He didn’t want to talk about this right now.” she said in a soft voice. “He told me we would talk when I get back, that he just couldn’t deal with it right now.”
“Ok, are you ready to go?” I asked grabbing my car keys from the counter, I knew she was upset and I didn’t want to make worse by talking about it. “Your flight is in a couple of hours, we should get going.”
“Rey are you going to stay here while I’m gone?”
“No, I might just go stay with my aunt Mary for a while.”
“Why don’t you come with me and get away from here for a while… I think we both could use the break.” Maci said as she picked her bag up off the floor. “I can change my flight to a later one and we can get you a ticket.”
“I am about a month from having this baby; I don’t think I should be traveling right now.” I said to her rubbing my stomach. She just nodded at me and we left to the airport so I could drop her off, once we said our goodbyes I walked back to the car. As I was approaching the car Phil was standing there next to his bike. “I talked to Happy last night on the phone he said I didn’t have to have an escort as long as I went back to the house after I left here.” I said as I walked up to him.
