Quoting Head Coach Christy Morgan
"I'm really pleased with the way we played hockey today. There were just moments when we broke down and moments where we didn't finish. But overall, it was a really connected, dynamic, fast, forward style of hockey. If we continue to grow from that and learn how to adjust to certain circ*mstances, we're going to be a great team."
How It Happened
- Early in the first quarter, Fouces collected a rebound off Schreiner and sent it five-hole to put the Hawks ahead 1-0.
- The Dukes answered at the 9:22 mark of the opening frame as fifth-year Carissa Tambroni connected with Strittmatter who weaved around Monmouth's keeper for the score.
- Molier picked up a loose ball in front of the goal on a penalty corner play and snuck a shot on cage to give JMU a 2-1 advantage late in the third.
- Three minutes later, Roeper knocked in a rebound off a defensive save from Moors to make it 3-1 Dukes at the 2:24 mark.
- Undeterred, Monmouth responded with a high reverse flick shot from Campen with an assist from Shakespeare with 10 seconds remaining in the third quarter to trail 3-2.
- Early in the final period, Frye found the back of the net on a quick reset in JMU territory with a reverse shot off an assist from Moors.
- Off an insertion by Doehner, Moors notched the gamewinner with a slap to the bottom left corner with 5:10 remaining.
